Are you thinking about running for Municipal Council? The Town of Collingwood with neighbouring municipalities is hosting a free joint Candidate Information Workshop on Thursday, June 9, 2022, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
The Workshop is an excellent resource for registered or potential candidates, the Spouse or partner of a candidate, or anyone interested in learning more about how local government works. It will give you an understanding of Council's roles and responsibilities and provide an overview of the significant changes coming to local government.
The workshop will be facilitated by expert speaker Fred Dean, a lawyer, retired from practice, who knows the ins and outs of municipal government; giving civic leaders the tools to make effective decisions and engage citizens in the process. Insightful and entertaining, Fred has shared his experience and expertise with municipal Councils and notable organizations with high praise and has been a facilitator training members of Council and Heads of Council on behalf of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario since 2002.
Workshop topics will include:
- Municipal powers
- Roles and responsibilities
- The public’s role in local government
- Impact on family life
- The difference between governance and administration
- Municipal conflict of interest and other personal responsibility
Pre-registration is recommended as space is limited to 250 attendees. To register, contact clerk@collingwood.ca.
