Clearview Township currently enforces animal licensing for dogs, kennels and backyard chickens.
Clearview Township does not control or provide any service for the control of wild animals. If wild animals present a nuisance you may wish to contact the Ministry of Natural Resources Midhurst District office at (705) 725-7500. If wild animals present a danger then please call the police 911.
Clearview Township requires residents to register and purchase a dog license for every dog over 3 months (12 weeks) of age. The tag must be attached to the dog’s collar or harness at all times.
To purchase a dog license, you are required to show proof that a rabies vaccination has been administered through a valid Rabies Vaccination Certificate.
The dog license is renewable annually and the license year runs from January 1st, to December 31st. There is a grace period between January 1st and March 31st to allow you to obtain the current year’s licence.
You are allowed 2 dogs, for any third or subsequent dogs the license fee is doubled. A maximum of 2 dogs in a residential area are allowed and a maximum of 5 elsewhere other than residential areas. If you do not license your dog on or before March 31st of the Calendar year then the license fee increases.
License Applications
Dog Licenses can be purchased at the Clearview Township Administration Office located at 217 Gideon Street in Stayner. The office is open Monday-Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. We accept cash, cheque and debit as forms of payment.
If you are unable to visit the Administration Office during regular business hours you have two options:
- Mail: your completed application form (available on our website) with a copy of the valid rabies certificate together with appropriate payment cheque made payable to “The Township of Clearview” at 217 Gideon Street, Stayner, ON, L0M 1S0, Attention: By-Law Department.
- Drop Box: provide all the above information along with the payment and deposit your envelope in the Gideon Street entrance door drop box at the Administration Office.
Upon processing your application, we will mail your dog license to you.
If you have moved or no longer have a dog please call our Office at 705-428-6230 x 241 to update your file.
Rabies Vaccination
The Health Protection and Promotion Act. O Reg 567 Section 1, link www.e-laws.gov.on.ca , requires that dogs over the age of 3 months are required to be vaccinated against rabies.
In accordance with the regulation, the Clearview Township requires that at the time of licensing your dog(s) you have to show proof of a valid rabies vaccination.
*Note: The Township does not keep records of your dog’s vaccination certificates.
If you operate a kennel within Clearview Township then you are required to licence the operation.
If you are considering opening a new kennel within the Township then you must make an application through the Township’s Planning Department to determine if your property has the appropriate zoning.
Clearview Township requires that chickens being kept on a property zoned residential must be licensed, inspected and approved by the Senior By-Law Enforcement Officer.

Clearview Township regulates the keeping of exotic animals under the Exotic Animal By-Law.
Residents are encouraged to contact the Clearview Township By-law Department to disclose exotic animals. Exemptions to the By-Law may be granted by Council. A record of exotic animals kept within the Township will be maintained for public safety and for emergency fire operations.
