The Town of New Tecumseth (Town) owns and operates a 57km long water transmission main that conveys treated water from the Raymond A. Barker Water Treatment Plant (RAB WTP) in Collingwood to the Parsons Road Reservoir in Alliston, with additional supply connections to New Lowell, Baxter and Angus. In 2016, the Town completed a Water Supply, Distribution and Storage Master Plan which identified the preferred strategy to provide security of water supply and to accommodate growth needs in Alliston, Beeton and Tottenham. The Master Plan identifies the need for two new Booster Pumping Stations on the New Tecumseth water transmission main.
The water transmission main was designed with provisions for future connection of up to four booster pumping stations. The addition of Booster Pumping Station #1 (BPS#1) is required to increase capacity in the short term and is being planned in coordination with the RAB WTP Expansion. Booster Pumping Station #2 (BPS#2) will be required to increase capacity in the longer term, based on water demand as identified in the Master Plan.
The Town of New Tecumseth is undertaking a Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) for the addition of BPS#1 and BPS#2. Alternative solutions will be evaluated to identify preferred alternatives for the proposed booster pumping stations, including site options for BPS#1 and BPS#2 within the hydraulic constraints of the water transmission main. This project is being planned in coordination with Simcoe County, Clearview Township and the Township of Essa.
The study areas for BPS#1 and BPS#2 are at the following general locations (refer to Figures 1-3, in the attached PDF):
- BPS#1: Concession Road 7 Sunnidale and Barrie-Collingwood Rail Trail (Clearview Township)
- BPS#2: County Road 10 and Side Road 25 (CFB Borden / Township of Essa)
