WHEREAS, the Township of Clearview does affirm and acknowledge the harm and hardship caused by drug overdose; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the purpose of International Overdose Awareness Month as remembering loved ones lost to overdose and working with the community to reduce the risk of drug-related deaths; and
WHEREAS, we resolve to play our part in reducing the toll of overdose in our community, and we recognize that opioid toxicity claimed the lives of more than 112 people in the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit region in 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Township of Clearview values community-based supports and, in collaboration with Brad’s Place Addiction Treatment of Southern Georgian Bay, is committed to promoting compassion, connection, and access to help for individuals and families impacted by substance use; and
WHEREAS, we encourage residents to learn about overdose prevention, harm reduction, and available supports, and to help reduce stigma by treating every person and every family with dignity and care; and
WHEREAS, the Township will mark this commitment with a flag raising on August 4, 2026;
THEREFORE, I, Doug Measures, Mayor of the Township of Clearview, do hereby proclaim the month of August 2026 as Overdose Awareness Month, and further recognize International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31, 2026.
