Whereas; every year, approximately 1,500 cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed. Because of significant advances in therapy, 82 % of these children will survive 5 years or more. Childhood cancer remains responsible for more deaths from one year through adolescence than any other disease; and
Whereas; families facing the journey of childhood cancer need the best possible medical, financial, & emotional support we can provide. Every family touched by childhood cancer needs the support of its relatives, neighbors, teachers & community. Parents need the understanding and compassion of their employers; brothers & sisters need special consideration both at home and in school. Young cancer patients themselves need every opportunity to express & pursue the dreams that are the hallmark of childhood & the hope that cancer can be beaten; and
Whereas; this month we recognize the dedication & hard work of scientists, healthcare professionals, parent organizations & volunteers who are working to overcome childhood cancer & assist these families. We admire & support the courageous youth & parents who struggle with this disease; and
Whereas; we applaud & commend the dedicated volunteers at Candlelighters Simcoe Parents of Children with Cancer for the work they do for families of children with cancer in our region.
Therefore, I, Doug Measures, Mayor of Clearview Township, and on behalf of the Council of Clearview Township, do hereby proclaim September 2025, as “CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH” in the Township of Clearview, with a flag raising to take place on September 2nd at 11:00 am.
