The Clearview Youth Centre was pleased to accept the RBC Future Launch Community Challenge grant for $5,000 on November 28th. Clearview was one of five small and medium-sized communities to receive a grant for youth-led initiatives. Provided by The Huronia Community Foundation and RBC Foundation, the grants were awarded to youth-led initiatives that shift the power to young leaders making positive social or environmental change in their communities while gaining valuable skills and experience.
“With our RBC Future Launch grant, the Clearview Youth Centre will create a new youth-led food security initiative.” Said Youth Centre Coordinator, Courtney Rogers. “Youth will be involved in choosing recipes, shopping for supplies, cooking/baking, and enjoying meals together in our new cooking classes. This grant will also include creating a healthy snack program at our drop-in program where the youth would be responsible for researching, choosing items and preparing them.”
As part of the initiative, youth ages 15-18 will also participate in Clearview's Farmers Markets starting in June 2020. They will run a booth for the Youth Centre showcasing their baked goods and items. “The grant will assist our efforts by helping to educate and provide youth with healthy food options and habits, but most importantly to create a community of healthy youth.” Said Courtney Rogers.
The Youth Centre is located at 7458 Highway 26 in Stayner. For information about the programs offered visit www.discoverclearview.ca/youth-centre
