Clearview Township has made the difficult decision to temporarily layoff a portion of its workforce, and not to proceed with filling some seasonal positions as a result of COVID-19.
During these tough times, the decision to send staff home has not been easy. Similarly, the decision to not hire numerous seasonal staff for summer operations was very difficult to make.” Said CAO Steve Sage.
Where possible staff have been redeployed to support core essential services. However, as is the case for many municipalities and businesses during these challenging times, COVID-19 has had a significant impact on Clearview Township operations. 21 positions have been notified of these temporary staffing measures. Similarly, 20 seasonal positions will be left unfilled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is an unprecedented time for Clearview Township as we are faced with a difficult decision to give temporary leave of some staff members. This decision was not taken lightly and was a direction of Council after receiving a report from Senior Management.” Said Mayor Doug Measures.
With the mandated closure of community facilities and restrictions on public gatherings, Clearview’s Recreation operations and Library Branches have been highly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. “The effect on the community will be significant. Without the numerous summer staff, the ability to assist the community with support for community events in 2020 will be difficult.” Continued CAO, Steve Sage.
Clearview will not be able to operate Farmer’s Markets, the Stayner Pool or the Tourism Information Centre during the summer of 2020. The Township will have limited capacity to maintain trails and will not be able to move ahead with previously planned downtown beautification projects or to provide support for community events during the 2020 event season.
The Clearview Youth Centre will remain closed and all programming, including community outreach scheduled for July and August, have been cancelled. The Centre plans to reopen September 2020 in conjunction with the school year if conditions allow.
The Township continues to provide core services and remains available to serve the public by email and over the phone. “We are continuing to deliver essential services, working hard to manage the significant changes to public services and the new demands on the municipality during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our main goal will be to return our community to full operation and have our staff return back to work as soon as reasonably possible.” Stated Mayor Measures
