News Release - Tell us what you think about Short Term Rentals Clearview

Clearview Township is taking a look at Short Term Rental Accommodations (STRA), and we want to know what our residents think. The Short-Term Rental Accommodations (STRA) Community Survey is now open, and we’d like to hear from you, the good, the bad and everything in between. 

Currently, short-term rentals are prohibited under Zoning By-law 06-54. However, we recognize that overnight accommodations in our Township are limited, and one of the objectives of Clearview’s Tourism Plan is to remedy that. Under Council direction, a licensing program to establish and regulate various models of STRA is being explored to support this objective, increase overnight guests and support economic development.

As part of the process, Clearview is asking residents to share their support or concerns for a STRA licensing by-law and Municipal Accommodation Tax program. STRA being considered in the licensing program would include internet-based platforms such as Airbnb, VRBO and other similar booking systems. This would not include bed and breakfasts, inns or motels. 

Clearview Mayor Doug Measures encourages residents to share their feedback through the survey, “Participating in our community survey is a crucial opportunity to voice your opinions and shape the future of our municipality.
