The Clearview Youth Centre is excited to announce that starting Monday, February 24th they will be partnering with the Gilbert Centre to offer a new LGBTQ Youth Connection Program. The Gilbert Centre provides social and support services to empower, promote health, and celebrate the lives of people living with and affected by HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STI) and the individuals and families from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) communities of Simcoe Muskoka. The Gilbert Centre would like the two-spirit community to know they are always welcome in their spaces and they are open to hearing about how they can best support them.

The LGBTQ Youth Connection is a drop-in (no registration required) and social space for all Queer and Trans identified youth. The two-spirit community is always welcome as well. The goal of this group is to provide a relaxed place to get together and access resources and support on LGBTQ topics/issues, and most importantly for LGBTQ and questioning youth to connect. The LGBTQ Youth Connection is held on the second and fourth Monday of each month. In addition to this drop-in, the group holds special events for youth, such as:

  • Picnics and movie nights
  • Education presentations & guest speaker events
  • Discussion groups (about coping strategies, mental health, etc.)

Who: LGBTQ+ and questioning Simcoe Muskoka youth ages 12 to 20
Where: Clearview Youth Centre, 7458 Highway 26, Stayner, ON
When:  Every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month from 4-6 PM

The group is guided by the interests and imaginations of the youth involved and is facilitated by supportive adults. Eventually, youth will be trained to facilitate the group themselves.
