Notice- Donation to Clearview Public Library
Former Clearview Township Councillor and Clearview Public Library Board Chair, Joyce Smith, made a $10,000.00 donation to the Clearview Public Library’s capital campaign for the replacement of the Stayner Branch this month. Clearview Public Library CEO, Jennifer La Chapelle, stated that this is the largest donation received for this project to date.
Joyce Smith, a long-time New Lowell resident, was CEO of the Sunnidale Township Public Library prior to amalgamation and was Branch Head of the Sunnidale and Creemore Branches until her retirement. When the Sunnidale Branch was closed due to the closure of the Sunnidale Community Hall, Joyce’s tireless advocacy for a new facility included running for Council. Her fundraising initiatives helped to ensure that the community’s financial commitment to the Sunnidale Branch project were not only met but exceeded in a single year. Joyce’s outstanding leadership as a Clearview Public Library Board member was recognized in 2008 by the Ontario Library Association which awarded her the James Bain Medallion. Even before the Sunnidale Branch project was completed Joyce, as Board Chair, began advocating for the replacement of the Stayner Branch facility.
Joyce now calls Goulais River in Northern Ontario home, but has many fond memories of Clearview. By the way, Goulais River doesn’t have a library, yet!
