Notice- Decision Regarding wpd Fairview Wind Project

Date: August 16, 2017

CLEARVIEW, ON- Clearview Township has received legal notice that the Environmental Review Tribunal has ruled to revoke the Renewable Energy Approval which was previously granted by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for the wpd Canada Fairview Wind Turbine Project.

In the report, the ERT outlined that:

“as the Tribunal has found, in regard to harm to human health, that the REA should be revoked, the Tribunal finds that an amendment to the REA to include the Mitigation Plan is rendered unnecessary.”

“This is welcoming news for Clearview Township” stated Mayor Christopher Vanderkruys, “The municipality has invested significant time and resources into fighting the wpd Canada Fairview Wind Turbine Project, and although we respect the process, it’s great to have a final decision.”

The project included eight wind turbines located near the Collingwood Regional Airport.

“The decision by the ERT to revoke the approval will be very beneficial for both the Collingwood Regional Airport and the proposed Clearview Aviation Business Park” explained Mayor Vanderkruys. “It has been a long fight, but we have managed to preserve our landscape and ensure viable operation for both the airport and proposed development which will create valuable economic impact for Clearview Township as well as the County of Simcoe.”
