Notice- Clearview Awarded the Best Community Garden Award!
CLEARVIEW, ON- Clearview Township is pleased to announce that the Clearview Community Garden has been awarded the ‘Best Community Garden Award’ from the 2016 Charter Champion Awards provided by the Food Partners Alliance.
“It’s great to see that Clearview Township is gaining recognition for our strong sense of community support,” said Clearview Township Mayor, Christopher Vanderkruys. “The success of the garden is made possible by many generous community members and I would like to extend my gratitude to all of the involved parties for their dedication and hard work.”
Located in Stayner, produce from the community garden is donated directly to the Stayner Foodbank. Some of the produce is also sold during the weekly Stayner Farmers Market.
In 2013, the Township received a four-year, $315,800 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario. The grant assisted the Township with implementing the PARC project, hiring a project supervisor and hiring summer students to help strengthen the local food bank and expand the community garden.
“We’re pleased to hear about the incredible work being done at Clearview Community Garden,” said Janet Yale, Chair of the Board, Ontario Trillium Foundation. “Your success demonstrates how much of a difference your community garden makes, especially by increasing engagement with youth and promoting the economic and social health of local citizens. We are proud to support your dedication to building a strong community which is now being recognized by this award from the Food Partners Alliance.”
The community garden is maintained by a small group of volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please email: Jodie Rawn at firstname.lastname@example.org
