Airport Economic Impact Study
Joint release by the Township of Clearview and the Town of Collingwood
On behalf of the Township of Clearview and the Town of Collingwood, we are providing a copy of the report: “Analysis of the Economic Impacts of the wpd Fairview Wind Project on the Collingwood Regional Airport and the Regional Economy.”
The study was submitted to the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) on Friday, and addresses the potential economic impacts of the proposed wind farm in Clearview Township. The report finds that the wpd Turbine Project, as proposed, would have a significant negative impact on the operations of the Collingwood Regional Airport. It also has the potential to jeopardize any proposed or future investment in the airport and by extension, the economy of the entire region.
This submission to the MOECC is intended to provide a thorough look at the potential economic impacts of the wpd Turbine Project, including the perception of the economic viability of the future of the airport, for those looking to invest in the airport.
This study was completed by Malone Given Parsons Ltd., in association with Charles Cormier, Aeronautical Information Consultant, metro economics and Aerocan Aviation Ltd. It is a comprehensive look at the impacts the proposed wind turbines would have, if they were permitted to be constructed in their proposed location.
This study was jointly commissioned by the Township of Clearview and the Town of Collingwood, and the full study, as well as the Executive Summary is available on both municipal websites.
Full and complete information about the economic impact on the Airport is necessary for the MOECC to determine whether it is in the public interest to issue the approvals for the wind turbine project. The MOECC must determine whether the wind turbine project, with its recognized impacts, is in the public interest for the residents and businesses of Clearview Township and the Town of Collingwood.
