CLEARVIEW – Clearview staff unveiled a proposed 2015 budget with a potential 3.22% net tax increase which would be a $91 increase to the average home’s property tax bill when combining Municipal, County and School Board taxes. Staff further unveiled a proposed 2016 budget with a potential 3.09% net tax increase which would mean a $90 increase to the average home’s tax bill.
“Two of the main factors behind the increase are a large reduction in a long-standing Provincial grant that helps rural municipalities operate and increases to municipal reserves to replace aging infrastructure”, explained Edward Henley, Clearview’s Treasurer during the Budget Workshop.
Mayor Chris VanderKruys invites all Clearview residents to contact him and the other members of Council to offer feedback and advice. “We want to hear from you. Clearview Council wants to ensure that Clearview residents have a say in how their tax dollars are spent, what services are important to them and where they would like to see savings.”
Clearview staff will make further presentations at one more budget workshop before Council begins to make their changes before presenting their proposed budget at a Public Meeting.
